OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGY IN OUR IELTS COURSE OF STUDY
It is important that students completing our IELTS course of study reflect on their progress and readiness as they approach the test date. Where special help is needed, we hope to provide individual attention.
IELTS examinations gauge relative strength and weakness in a variety of English language skills.
There is no pass or fail in IELTS examinations. Candidates are graded on their performance, using scores from 1 to 9 for each part of a given IELTS test – whether in Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking.
The results from the four parts then produce an Overall Band Score...
Each band corresponds to a level of English competence. All parts of the test and the Overall Band Score can be reported in whole and half bands, eg 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0. Band 9 indicates and expert user, who has fully operational command of the language: appropriate, accurate and fluent usage with evident complete understanding. This is the high end of competent or excellent ability and performance.
Overall band scores for Academic and General Training candidates in 2012 are available after testing with scores for individual skills according to a variety of classifications, from low to high.
Before the TESTING DATE arrives, of course we at MIGHTY ENGLISH aim to appraise and diagnose the stage of a student's individual progress, in order to identify shortcomings and to remediate - in order to fill in the gap where weaknesses in knowledge or skill exist.
In-class practice exams and online practice exams should provide each student with a fair or relatively accurate sense of where he or she stands in terms of academic progress. It is the student's responsibility to follow-up on these results by seeking appropriate coaching and relevant additional exercises to ensure competence is achieved in each of the key areas.
